Climate Solutions Videos
In our travels across India, we documented many dozens of climate solutions that we wanted to share through film. With partners in each city and with a few filmmakers who joined us throughout the tour, we created the following films (and many others that can be found on youTube). Our solutions include all of the solutions we around us – ranging from specific clean technologies, innovative corporates, and individuals making changes in their lives.
If you are interested in higher resolution versions of any of these films or sharing these solutions in new ways, then please do. And, if you'd like to help us by being a climate solutions scout and making more films about the solutions around you, please email indiaclimatesolutions@gmail.com or email us the link to your climate solutions videos that are already online.
Below are some of the solutions films we've created over the course of our tour, but there are far more solutions throughout the site.
Biogas as a Health, Economic and Climate Solution, Ananthpur, Andhra Pradesh
Chaitanya Kumar, our Hyderabad city coordinator for Indian Youth Climate Network, explains the simple beauty of a biogas plant in a village nearby to Hyderabad. He explains that biogas is able to be a solution to so many issues. By using cow dung more effectively and capturing methane (a greenhouse gas, six times more potent than carbon dioxide), while also reducing biomass being cut down from local forests and burned inside the home, use of biogas is a clear climate solution. But it also reduces indoor air pollution from burning wood indoors, reduces the time of women and children spent collecting fuelwood, and saves local forests (and watersheds). Plus, for people already using gas to cook, they don't have to purchase it any longer, saving thousands of rupees a year!
Driving Solar Electric Cars through India
Check out some fun shots of us driving the solar electric cars through India. Music is by Solar Punch.
Organic Farming in Ananthpur, Andhra Pradesh
During the road tour, we visited an incredibly inspiring climate solution using natural organic fertilizers and drip irrigation technology to replenish the soil and achieve higher crop yields than before!
Permaculture and Environmental Education at Garden of Peace, Vellore
We had an incredible visit to the beautiful green school at the Buddha Smiles Project, a budding permaculture and organic farm site. Solar Punch played a completely solar acoustic show, accompanied by singing of the children in English, French and Hindi! Alexis explains our solar car to dozens of excited children, and the teachers explain their teaching philosophy.
Banana Leaf Plates Replace Plastic as a Climate Solution
While passing through Tamil Nadu, the Climate Solutions Road Tour team found that banana leaf plates are an incredible solution to disposable plates.
Solar Electric Reva Car Launch, Bangalore
In Bangalore, the Climate Solutions Road Tour team stopped to pick up all the vehicles and join Chetan Maini, the visionary young CEO of Reva Electric Cars, in a grand flag-off of the Climate Solutions Road Tour. Listen in to hear more about the solar electric car technology and see us drive off!
Charging Electric Cars at Indian Oil Petrol Station, near Ananthpur, Andhra Pradesh- This is the Future!
At our first petrol pump charging point - of many to come on this cross-continental road tour-, we filled up with electricity instead of petrol.
Hear the owner talk about his support for such change, and about the necessary enablers for filling stations to become charging points - clean charging points no less.
Sharing Solutions & Ways for Action with Kids, Indus International School, Hyderabad
In Hyderabad, while the Climate Solutions Road Tour team stopped at the Indus International School, we had the chance to share a lot of our solutions with the incredible students there. We showed them our solar electric cars, our hand crank lanterns, our alternatives to plastic bags, the power of the sun to power our equipment for the band and to heat everything it touches, and our waste vegetable oil powered truck. The video shares some students' responses to our visit and our solutions
Smart Solar Homes and Vehicle-to-Grid Visions, Hyderabad
A vision of the future stands before you. Smart Solar homes, linked into a microgrid and charging your clean transport mobile - a reva electric car. The Palm Meadows housing development is situated just outside Hyderabad, India, and is the work of SA Habitat and Valence Energy.
Smart Solar Homes on a Microgrid, Hyderabad, Part 2
This video discusses a number of smart energy solutions being implemented by Valence Energy in a smart solar home microgrid project near Hyderabad. These include roof-top solar PV systems as well as solar water heaters, and water and gas meters. Because diesel generated electricity is so expensive in this area, solar makes sense. In addition, smart metering technology integrated on a microgrid creates an intelligent energy solution that allows for optimal energy management for the community, demand response to minimise consumption and also provides more information to the customer.
The first film created in advance of the tour. Full of bloopers and full of enthusiasm!
Tree Oil Plantation in Zahirabad
The Indian Youth Climate Network stopped outside of Zahirabad, Andhra Pradesh during the Climate Solutions Road Tour to visit this tree oil plantation, which is growing jatropha and pongamia on degraded lands to help farmers increase their profits and decrease dependence on expensive fossil fuels by producing their own fuel for their tractors and generator systems. This method of creating off-grid villages is an exciting solution for the future.
IIT Students and their Solar Robot, IIT Tech Fest
IIT Mumbai students tell us about their solar robot and their visions for a solar world to save our planet! We are at the IIT Tech Fest, which is the largest technology festival in Asia. Young aspiring engineers from all over India come to battle robots, learn about developments in biotech and IT, and get inspired by solar robots!
Solar, Biomass, Biogas: All-Climate-Solutions-in-One at Muni Seva School!
This school in Gujarat has 13 kW solar PV for electricity generation, solar cookers to feed hundreds of rural children, a biomass gassifier to power the irrigation pumps, biogas for cooking, rainwater harvesting to replenish the previously depleting ground water supply, an organic farm and more! All green solutions in one for a utopia of climate action!
Solar Cookers at Muni Seva School, Gujarat
Muni Seva Ashram and School in Gujarat is an inspiring collection of climate solutions, including this solar cooker system which provides the cooking energy for the hundreds of individuals present at the ashram and the hospital.
An Electric Scooter Salesman in Himnatnagar, a small town in Gujarat
We stopped to charge our electric cars at the shop of an electric scooter salesman. He talked to us about the financial sense in buying electric mobility! Electric scooters in this small town are already a popular item for customers. The scooters travel around 80km on a full charge and can save the owner hundreds of dollars over the year in fuel costs.
Environmental Music and Solar Power at Tribal Girls School, Gujarat
Deepak Gadhia and his team supported an incredible initiative at a Tribal Girls School in Dharampur, Gujarat to install solar cookers on the roof of the girls' hostel to prepare delicious food for all hundred girls living here. The girls learn about the solar technology as well as other local environmental issues and return to their villages to share this information and encourage environmental protection. This true environmental education for implementation was really inspiring! We shared our music together with the girls singing songs about the environment and the need to protect the world around us and demonstrating their energy and enthusiasm through intricate dance. IYCN sang the same fundamental message with Paul performing "Colors of the Wind" -- the earth does not belong to us but to our children and to each other. If we care about our future, young children like these, we must join together to protect the earth the youth will inherit.
Young Indian Artists Paint for Climate Solutions, Ahmedabad, Gujarat
At the Eco Fest on the green campus of the Center for Environmental Planning and Technology, a group of painters shares their visions on climate solutions. At the end of the clip you can see a mural project our team was working on in each city as part of the Art Miles Mural Project. The murals will be taken to Egypt and wrapped around a pyramid on World Peace Day in 2010.
EcoFest at Center for Environmental Planning and Technology, Ahmedabad, Gujarat
The IYCN Ahmedabad team organized an amazingly beautiful Eco-Fest at the Center for Environmental Planning and Technology, which is itself a green campus. There were stalls for organic seeds, rainwater harvesting technology, solar energy and more!
