Climate Leadership Trainings

The Indian Youth Climate Network aims to generate awareness and empower a generation of young people to take effective action against climate change, at a local, state, national and international level. This IYCN Climate Leadership Program aims to produce a strong group of youth leaders across India -- leaders who will initiate and lead grassroots climate groups in their work, schools, colleges and communities; leaders who will organise and mobilize people at a local, national and international level; and leaders who will spread the message about the urgency of climate change and the great opportunity for each of us to create, communicate, celebrate and be climate solutions.

We believe that each person has the ability to become a leader, regardless of their gender, caste, race, age, education or socioeconomic status. We aim to generate as diversified a set of leaders as possible to cater to all people of India! The only requirement to participate in this program is passion, belief and a desire in making India a cleaner, more equal, wealthier and more forward thinking nation.

The Leadership Training for Campus Climate Changers is a full day interactive session on climate change, beginning with basic climate science and solutions and moving quickly into brainstorming on campus solutions, creating action plans for implementation, and media training to communicate successes. Each workshop ends with a Climate Commitment session, where each individual needs to commit to taking action – Campus Climate Changers all commit to form a committed group and create change on campus. All Climate Leaders commit to leading by example by making changes in their own lives and by sharing their successes in the Climate Solutions web database.

We have conducted Climate Leadership Trainings at Delhi University, SRM University in Chennai during Aaruush 2008, Pune University, and at IIT Kanpur during Antaragani 2008, and have trained more than 200 Climate Changers, who are currently running programs in 10 states on climate change on their campuses and in their communities.
